Sony - Tum Mile Movie by archanN Sony - Tum Mile Movie by archanN
Visual Art Produced for Sony Music and Vishesh Films upcoming Disaster based movie 'Tum Mile'.
Indian Movie / Bollywood

It was amazing working with the guys at Sony and Mahesh Bhatt (One of India's Finest movie makers)

They started campaigning this week, so the poster is all over the net, newspapers, t.v etc, and Im thrilled it has been received well.
Looking forward for the movie now :)

A lot of effort went into it, mostly painted from scratch, except for the city part which was basically part stock images given by sony and partly photography done, as we were not allowed to shoot the skyline of the city, it had to be completely recreated.

You can read more about the movie here: [link]

Hey man,

while I enjoy all of your works and find most of them really impressive, I will now take the chance to give a bit constructive critique.

I'm not sure in what extend you wanted this to be realistic, but I will simply start at the bottom:

On first sight, the water looks nicely done, however, if you look closely you can spot a few annoying repetitive parts. Additionally the surface has many light and dark areas which come off somewhat unnatural compared to the movement of the waves.

Another issue I noticed is directed to the blend of the city photos. On the one hand, the transition between the two "main" parts is off, mostly because of the high saturated blue on one of the buildings. On the other hand, the city doesn't blend perfectly with the sky. I assume this is due to the fact that the right half of the city is too bright.

The clouds in the upper part look very cool, but I must admit I dislike the painted lightning bolds, most of all because of their high saturated blue color which in my point of view really doesn't fit. Overall the piece could use a few additonal color adjustments since the mix of these tones comes of a bit random and unnatural.

I will not judge originality because it is a commissioned piece and I assume it's the client's concept.

The impact would be awesome if it wasn't for those technical issues, I stated above. So it's just three out of five, but I hope this will help you in the future, in case you ever consider to create a similar work in this style.

Cheers
kire

I have to agree with the above critique. I love your work, but this one seem tad below par.
The biggest part of the image is the sky & it is over saturated with too many unnatural colors, which can't coexist.
The water is good & so it the sky line. Its only the colored light from the lightning that falls on the buildings that seems a bit unreal.

Um,what the hell?

Mahesh Bhatt? Imraan Hashmi?

I really don't understand why you did this poster for Mahesh Bhatt, and even called him "one of India's finest filmmakers". :/

one of indians finest filmakers. i mean cmon how many filmakers are there producing good movies in india? 99% of them which come out are pure crap. just a few of the lot who sometimes deliver something good. speaking of mahesh bhatt, some of his older movies i love i donno if you ever saw them, when he used to be the director were really good.

The movies of his I have seen or have seen the trailers of, are mostly based on sex and make-out-edness and the so-called plot is very weak.

There's a lot of good stuff out there, though, so if this gets you into the industry, it'd be really cool if you can make posters or even more, for some of the better(imo) movies/directors.

Not trying to argue, btw. I guess we just have different tastes, 'cause there's a huge age difference between us. The poster itself is pretty nice.

tastes are subjective. but most of the recent movies of the bhatt clans are not so impressive to be honest. i quite liked the ones mahesh bhatt made during the 70-s and 80's. some were highly emotional and strong subjects. this one i did the visual art for the movie. nice experience yeah, mahesh bhatt is a gem of a person to work with. most of the producers really dont have taste , about their subjects , and for that matter the visual art. they dont even think how important the publicity design is. so i wish there was. there are some really good movie makers now, especially some new ones cropping out are pretty cool , but the indian movie scene is still lame, more credit coz they looka t the commercial aspect which lies within the masses. thanks man

Yep, you're right, they do actually try to make what they think the general people will watch, ergo the pointless songs with girls in tiny clothes.
And if everyone's trying to make what the "general" population wants, everyone's basically trying to make the same movie.

But movies like Dev D are really shaking it all up and bringing back the fun.

coz it just rained and didn't lightning so intensely as shown in the pic :P
and even, can't see the rain too in the pic :S

but I love the sea and cloud lighting... beautifully done... teach me dude :P

Thats not larger than life, thats Mahesh Bhatt...
Stories and songs rock, rest sucks...:P

But depicting the same situation can make greater impact, like Slumdog Millionaire which brought the real slum of Mumbai in the film :D

Not into the theory behind poster making so can't say..
What I said was my view, as a common person and not as a poster expert designer/critic....

Sad...No answer about the tablet used :(
This is the last time I am asking :P
